All plumbing and electrical work requires licensing at the state level. All other construction work over $500 requires registration.
- Examinations are given four times a year for electrical and plumbing licenses.
- Joint ventures must file a Declaration of Joint Venture and Power of Attorney with the Department of Transportation as a pre qualification to bidding on highway contracts.
- Public works contractor applicants must submit a financial statement with their application. Initial application fees are $250 for Class A, $150 for Class B and $100 for Class C. Annual renewal fees are $125, $100 and $50 respectively.
- There were 1,850 licensees as of October 1994. The processing time on applications is ten days.
Montana has reciprocity agreements for electrical classes with North Dakota, South Dakota, Washington and Wyoming.
Agreements also exist for Plumbing classes with Idaho, North Dakota, Oregon and Washington.
