Construction Work Regulated:

Commercial projects over $100,000 and public works contracts exceeding $50,000 require licensing at the state level.

Residential building exceeding $50,000 per project requires licensing. Likewise, residential remodeling projects exceeding $10,000 each requires licensing.

License Requirements

Construction Work Regulated:

• Contractors are required to pass a business and law and a specific trade examination with a score of 70%.
• Applicants must also provide experience documentation and financial statements. The initial application fee as well as annual renewal fee is $100.
• The average processing time on applications is 60 days.
• A net worth of at least $20,000 is required of commercial license applicants.

Reciprocal Agreements

Mississippi does not have formal reciprocity agreements with other states, however, the trade examination will be waived if the state the applicant is from honors Mississippi trade exams.
